2011 CAG Members’ Show
August 1-13, 2011, Illges Gallery, CSU, Columbus, GA.
It’s hard to believe we could top last year’s show, but Paddy Blackmar and Joyce Turner did it. Once again, our biggest show ever, an even 100 pieces, went off without a hitch. The reception was beautifully done by Jean Puckett (the flowers were gorgeous), and the show was perfectly hung by Eric Maddox and his committee. CAG President, Gloria Sampson, and the CAG officers rolled up their sleeves, too. Our thanks go to Jon Lumpkin and Hanna Isreal of Columbus State University for their help and support in the use of the Illges Gallery. Many hands are involved in the production of a show of this magnitude. You know who you are, and you know that we appreciate your hard work. Thank you to all of our generous donors who sponsored a Patron Award this year, and supported individual artists in a very real and meaningful way.

And the Winners Are…
Pat Christian had a piece that was not only Juried in the Spring into Art but also selected for the 2012 Colson calendar. That’s two years in a row on the Colson calendar. On a roll Pat! Congratulations.
Diane Osborne reached a milestone achieving Signature Status with the Alabama Watercolor Society with the acceptance of “Bountiful Beauty”. The show is currently at the Tennessee Valley Museum of Art in Tuscumbia, Alabama. A great honor and well deserved. Congratulations Diane.
Rani Garner has been busy, busy, busy. She was Juried in the Spring into Art show; juried into Southworks, a national show in Watkinsville, Georgia and juried into recent Let There Be Art show at the Columbus Museum. Not surprising for us to see this award winning member receive these recognitions; but we are happy to see that others recognize her as well.
Helena Meeks also got into the Spring into Art act with a piece juried and also selected for the Colson calendar. Congratulations Helena, well done.
Eric Maddox took Third Place honors at the Eufaula Pilgrimage Show (see the photo below).

There will one Award of Excellence for each of the four categories (another first). The categories are: Works on canvas; Works on paper; Photography; and 3D which includes textiles. The entry forms with details will be out soon.
Condolences Rebecca Kissel’s mother died on May 8th. Our condolences to Rebecca and her entire family. Her mom must have been a wonderful woman to have brought Rebecca into this world.

Future Programs The June program should be a real treat. The people from Pan Pastels are providing samples of their products and everyone will have a chance to get acquainted with this new form of pastel first hand. The program titled “Pan Pastels – a new dimension to an old medium” will be hosted by Len Jagoda. The program includes a short video about Pan Pastels and how they are used, followed by a brief “show and tell” during which Len will show some examples of how he used Pan Pastels on some of his works. We have arranged for ten easels with pastel paper samples and the makers of Pan Pastels are providing samples and tools so we can all actually get a chance to get the feel of this exciting new form of pastel. Len is the only local artist that we know about who has been using Pan Pastels and he states that he can get effects with Pan Pastels that you just cannot achieve with any other form of that medium. “They open up a whole new dimension to working with pastels and can be enjoyed by realists like me, as well as impressionists and abstract artists. They will move an artist working with pastels to feel like they are painting.” Don’t miss it and invite a friend. By the way, if you like to work in pastels and have a favorite surface to use pastels, you might want to bring a small sheet to try out. July’s program is the Member Show, we are hoping for perfect attendance! Kent is working on the August program which promises to be something special but for now we will let that be a small mystery so we will list it as TBA.

Invite Someone to a CAG Meeting
The guild has programs for everyone, artists, collectors, gallery directors and art enthusiasts. When you get your announcement a notice something that could be of interest to some non-member you know, invite them to the meeting. Get the word out; and word of mouth is the best form of promotion.
